Rules & Prizes

The Kamloops Inner Light Photo Contest 2019/20 is open to any residents, thirteen or older, living in the TNRD Electoral District.

The JCNM Department in the Thompson Rivers University Faculty of Arts, , together with Kamloops Photo Arts Club, are seeking submissions for the Kamloops Inner Light Photo Contest. All photographers from the TNRD Electoral District are invited to participate.

The Kamloops Inner Light Photo Contest is pleased to offer cash and gear prizes to the winning submissions.

Participants are invited to submit up to three images of their original photographic work to be considered for prizes and exhibition. Selected photographs will become part of a show at Thompson Rivers University.

Please read all rules carefully before submitting your image.

Please Note:

In the sole discretion of the Kamloops Inner Light Photo Contest (KILPC), the photograph may not contain any subject that in their (KILPC) opinion is obscene, provocative, defamatory, sexually explicit, or otherwise objectionable or inappropriate content. Photographs considered inappropriate will be disqualified and therefore, are ineligible for awards.

All Entries must adhere to the rules and regulations as determined by Kamloops Inner Light Photo Contest in their sole discretion.

Prizes

Prizes will also be awarded to the image judged to be the best image overall (first place), and the runner-up (second place.)

  1. First Prize $250 and a large Wacom Intuos tablet (approximate value $570)
  2. Second Prize $150
  3. Student Prize $100 (must be registered student at either Thompson Rivers University or any Kamloops District #73 high school)

Prizes of $100 cash will be awarded for the images judged to be the best entry from each of the following five categories:

  1. Landscape or Seascape
  2. Wildlife or Nature
  3. Portrait (including street photography)
  4. Phoneography and Alternative (cell and drone photography)
  5. Photomanipulation and Alternative Processes

VIEWERS CHOICE: A prize of $100 cash will be awarded to the image that accumulates the most votes online during the course of the contest.

Contest Instructions

  • No watermarks, please. Images including watermarks will not be displayed on the contest site.
  • Maximum file size of 50MB (no edge longer than 5000px)
  • Maximum of three submissions per entrant
  • Images may be either sRGB or Adobe RGB in jpg
  • Photos will be evaluated under the category in which they are submitted only
  • Images must have been taken or created within the past two years (December 1, 2017 to present)

Rules & Regulations

1. Eligibility: This Campaign is open only to those who sign up at the Kamloops Inner Light Photo Contest and who are 13 years of age or older as of the date of entry (verification of age may be required.) The Campaign is only open to residents of Kamloops, BC elector district. 

2. Agreement to Rules: By participating, the Contestant (“You”) agree to be fully unconditionally bound by these Rules, and You represent and warrant that You meet the eligibility requirements. In addition, You agree to accept the decisions of judges as final and binding as it relates to the content of this Contest.

3. Contest Period: Entries will be accepted online starting on Sunday, December 1, 2019, PST, and all online entries must be received by midnight, March 9, 2020.

4. How to Enter: The Campaign must be entered by submitting an entry using the online form provided at Kamloops Inner Light Photo Contest. The entry must fulfill all contest requirements, as specified, to be eligible to win a prize. Entries that are incomplete or do not adhere to the rules or specifications may be disqualified at the sole discretion of the Kamloops Inner Light Photo Contest  judges. You may enter a maximum of three images. You must be able to prove ownership/copyright of any image submitted. You may not enter more times than indicated by using multiple email addresses, identities, or devices in an attempt to circumvent the rules. If You use fraudulent methods or otherwise attempt to circumvent the rules, any or all of your submissions will be removed from eligibility.

5. Prizes: The Winner(s) of the Contest will receive prizes as outlined. The prize is nontransferable. No substitution of prize or transfer/assignment of prize to others or request for the cash equivalent by Winner is permitted. Acceptance of prize constitutes permission for Kamloops Inner Light Photo Contest to display Winner’s photo online on the above-noted website, as well as a printed version to be displayed in gallery exhibitions.

6. Odds: The odds of winning do not depend on the number of entries submitted. All winners are chosen by a double-blind selection committee.

7. Winner Selection and Notification: Winner will be selected by a double-blind selection committee. Winner will be notified by email within five (5) days following the selection of Winner. Kamloops Inner Light Photo Contest shall have no liability for Winner’s failure to receive notices due to spam, junk email or other security settings or for Winner’s provision of incorrect or otherwise non-functioning contact information. If Winner cannot be contacted, is ineligible, fails to claim the prize within 14 days from the time award notification was sent (or fails to timely return a completed and executed declaration and release as required) the prize may be forfeited and an alternate Winner selected. Receipt by Winner of the prize offered in this Contest is conditioned upon compliance with any and all federal, provincial, and local laws and regulations. 

8. Rights Granted by You: By entering this photo contest, You understand and agree that Kamloops Inner Light Photo Contest, anyone acting on behalf of Kamloops Inner Light Photo Contest, and Kamloops Inner Light Photo Contest’s licensees, successors, and assigns, shall have the right, where permitted by law, to print and display the winning photo, without any further compensation, notice, review, or consent. 

By entering this Contest, You represent and warrant that your entry is an original work of authorship, and does not violate any third party’s proprietary or intellectual property rights. If your entry infringes upon the intellectual property right of another, You will be disqualified at the sole discretion of Kamloops Inner Light Photo Contest. If the content of your entry is claimed to constitute infringement of any proprietary or intellectual proprietary rights of any third party, You shall, at your sole expense, defend or settle against such claims. You shall indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Kamloops Inner Light Photo Contest from and against any suit, proceeding, claims, liability, loss, damage, costs or expense, which Kamloops Inner Light Photo Contest may incur, suffer, or be required to pay arising out of such infringement or suspected infringement of any third party’s right. If your image is selected for a prize you may be required to suply an original image that contains the camera metadata (see copyright information included in the electronic metadata for consideration) or analog negative.

9. Terms & Conditions: Kamloops Inner Light Photo Contest reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Contest should virus, bug, non-authorized human intervention, fraud, or other cause beyond Kamloops Inner Light Photo Contest’s control corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, or proper conduct of the Contest. In such case, Kamloops Inner Light Photo Contest may select the Winner from all eligible entries received prior to and/or after (if appropriate) the action taken by KamloopsInnerLight.trubox.ca. Kamloops Inner Light Photo Contest reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual who tampers or attempts to tamper with the entry process or the operation of the Contest or website or violates these Terms & Conditions. Kamloops Inner Light Photo Contest has the right, in its sole discretion, to maintain the integrity of the Contest, to void votes for any reason, including, but not limited to: multiple entries from the same user from different IP addresses; multiple entries from the same computer in excess of that allowed by Contest rules; or the use of bots, macros, scripts, or other technical means for entering. Any attempt by an entrant to deliberately damage any website or undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest may be a violation of criminal and civil laws. 

10. Limitation of Liability: By entering, You agree to release and hold harmless Kamloops Inner Light Photo Contest and its subsidiaries, affiliates, advertising and promotion agencies, partners, representatives, agents, successors, assigns, employees, officers, and directors from any liability, illness, injury, death, loss, litigation, claim, or damage that may occur, directly or indirectly, whether caused by negligence or not, from: (i) such entrant’s participation in the Contest and/or his/her acceptance, possession, use, or misuse of any prize or any portion thereof; (ii) technical failures of any kind, including but not limited to the malfunction of any computer, cable, network, hardware, or software, or other mechanical equipment; (iii) the unavailability or inaccessibility of any transmissions, telephone, or Internet service; (iv) unauthorized human intervention in any part of the entry process or the Promotion; (v) electronic or human error in the administration of the Promotion or the processing of entries.

11. Disputes: THIS Contest IS GOVERNED BY THE LAWS OF CANADA AND BRITISH COLUMBIA, WITHOUT RESPECT TO CONFLICT OF LAW DOCTRINES. As a condition of participating in this Contest, participant agrees that any and all disputes that cannot be resolved between the parties, and causes of action arising out of or connected with this Contest, shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, exclusively before a court located in British Columbia having jurisdiction. Further, in any such dispute, under no circumstances shall participant be permitted to obtain awards for, and hereby waives all rights to, punitive, incidental, or consequential damages, including reasonable attorney’s fees. Participant further waives all rights to have damages multiplied or increased.

13. Winners List: A complete list of contest winners will be posted on KamloopsInnerLight.trubox.ca/winners2019-20 after all prizes have been awarded.

14. Sponsor: The Sponsors of the Contest are Journalism, Communication, and New Media Department, Faculty of Arts, Thompson Rivers University, Kamloops, BC, & the Kamloops Photo Arts Club.
